UAVs attack Novokuibyshevsk oil refinery in Russia’s Samara Region
UAVs attacked the Novokuibyshevsk oil refinery in Russia’s Samara Region on October 30. No further details about the incident were provided.
The Novokuibyshevsk refinery is located in the city of Novokuibyshevsk and is part of Rosneft’s Samara group of enterprises. It processes oil from the Samara and Orenburg regions, Western Siberia and other areas, producing automotive and jet fuel as well as other petroleum products.
The refinery’s stated primary oil-processing capacity is 8.8 million metric tons per year. Its facilities include catalytic cracking, delayed coking, reforming, isomerization and hydrotreating units.
The decision to build the refinery was made in 1947, construction began in 1949, and its first processing units started operating in 1951. Rosneft acquired the facility in May 2007.
The Novokuibyshevsk refinery has previously been the subject of repeated reports of drone attacks. In March 2024, Russian authorities reported that attempted attacks on the facility had been thwarted; on March 25, a forcibly landed drone carrying an explosive device was found and neutralized near the refinery.
In August 2025, Reuters, citing industry sources, reported that primary oil processing had been halted after a drone attack. In September 2025, Ukraine’s General Staff said the refinery had been attacked and a fire had broken out. Russian and international publications also reported attacks on the facility in April and August 2026, including a fire at the site in August.
