Ukraine strikes Ilsky oil refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai
On September 25, Ukraine’s Armed Forces struck the Ilsky oil refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai. Rocket-propelled weapons were also used in the attack.
The Ilsky refinery is located in the settlement of Ilsky in Seversky District, on the 55th kilometre of the Krasnodar-Novorossiysk highway. The facility receives, stores and processes hydrocarbon feedstock, and ships finished products by road and rail.
According to the company and business media, the refinery has six processing units and a designed capacity of about 6.6 million tonnes of oil per year. Oil processing at the site began in 1980, while the modern company was established on February 28, 2007. The refinery was connected to Transneft’s main oil pipeline system in 2016.
The Ilsky refinery has previously been affected by attacks and fires. Russian sources reported explosions and a fire at the facility on May 4 and 5, 2023. On February 9, 2024, Reuters, citing a Ukrainian source, reported a drone attack and possible damage to a primary-processing unit.
The Krasnodar regional operations headquarters reported a UAV falling on the refinery grounds, damage to buildings and a fire on June 21, 2024. In 2026, Russian sources reported a fire after a UAV attack on February 17, a blaze after falling debris on July 10 and another fire following a drone attack on August 8; Kommersant reported six people injured in the latter incident.
